flaskProperties of Matter

Physical Properties

Physical Properties
Depends on Size volume, mass, & weight
Does not depend on size density, melting/boiling point, solubility, magnetism, state of matter, color, ductile, viscosity

A physical property is a characterstic that you can observe without changing or trying to change the substance. How

an object looks, smells, sounds, or tastes are examples of physical properties. You can also descirebe matter as its form or state. Such as solid, liquid, gas, or plasma. Volume, mass, and weight are all physical properties that depend on size. Physical properties that do not depend on size are density, melting and boiling points, and solubility.

Chemical Properties

A chemical property is a characterstic that you cannot observe without changing a substance. Examples of chemical properties are heat of combustion, reactivity with water, pH, toxicity, flammability, and electromotive force.
